What is Utah Diving Club?

Utah Diving Club, part of Utah Aquatics, offers specialized coaching in the sport of springboard diving. We aim to cultivate athletes who are passionate and skilled, with the potential to advance to higher levels of competition. Training at our club is designed to provide a solid foundation in diving, with a focus on conditioning and in-pool workouts on one and three-meter boards.

We operate year-round at the Ute Natatorium with different session schedules:

  • Spring Season: April 1 – June 19

  • Summer Season: June 20 – August 15

  • Fall & Winter Seasons: September 4 – March 31

What are the best traits to have to be a good diver?

Diving requires characteristics similar to those of gymnasts, cheerleaders, and ballet dancers, such as flexibility, strength, and kinesthetic awareness. Additionally, coachability and a willingness to try new things are crucial.

What is a good age to start diving?

Age is less important than readiness. Confidence in deep water, enjoyment of diving, and an openness to learning new skills are key. We accept children as young as 7 and have successfully coached older beginners as well.

Will my child have to dive from the 3-meter?

We encourage divers to learn on the 3-meter, but we will work at each athlete's pace, ensuring they are comfortable and ready before attempting new heights.

Coaching at Utah Diving Club

What are your teaching techniques?

Our coaching emphasizes progressions, which are small, sequential steps that build up to mastering a dive. This approach ensures that divers develop the necessary skills in a safe and controlled manner.

My child fears a dive and does not want to go to practice. What do I do?

We never push a diver to attempt a new skill without proper preparation. If your child expresses fear, we focus on reinforcing their confidence through progressive skill-building. Open communication between coach and athlete is essential.

Parent Involvement

Parents are welcome to observe practices from the pool deck, but it is important to leave coaching to the professionals.
